About
This roadside marker recognizes Delgadillo’s Snow Cap, the colorful Seligman drive-in Juan Delgadillo built from scrap lumber in 1953. Erected by the Route 66 Association of Arizona in 2019, the marker highlights two of the restaurant’s enduring jokes—the “Cheeseburger with Cheese” and “Dead Chicken”—and identifies the Snow Cap as an official Route 66 Roadside Attraction. Positioned along the historic highway near the restaurant, it gives travelers a quick introduction to the personality that helped make the Snow Cap one of Seligman’s best-known Route 66 stops.
The current marker also continues an earlier effort to recognize the site. A previous Delgadillo’s Snow Cap marker was erected in 2003 through Hampton Hotels’ Save-a-Landmark program before eventually being replaced by the present sign nearby. Together, the marker and the Snow Cap tell a story larger than a roadside restaurant: Juan Delgadillo and his family became closely associated with the revival of Historic Route 66 in Seligman, while the restaurant’s signs, jokes and roadside character continue to give travelers a taste of the humor that has defined the stop for generations.
