About

We welcome Route 66 travelers to The Filling Station at the crossroads of historic Route 66 and U.S. Highway 81 in downtown El Reno. Housed in a restored former Texaco service station, the visitor center brings the look and character of an old roadside filling station back to life with vintage pumps, neon details and automotive displays. The building reopened as El Reno’s Route 66 visitor center in 2025, giving travelers a convenient place to learn more about the city and the Mother Road.

Inside, visitors can pick up travel information, browse El Reno and Route 66 souvenirs, see rotating classic automobiles and take a break with cold drinks and clean restrooms. Outside, the large “Crossroads of America” mural by El Reno artist Chris Small creates one of the stop’s signature photo opportunities. Across the intersection, Petree Plaza adds more Route 66 sights, including the Centennial Monument and a historic Rock Island Railroad caboose, making this corner an easy starting point for exploring downtown El Reno.
