About Us
Our story began in 1927, when Walter Peck discovered an opening leading into the cavern system beneath this stretch of northern Arizona. The following year, the gravel alignment of Route 66 was placed beside the natural entrance, bringing early motorists directly past the attraction. Today, visitors descend by elevator about 200 feet underground to explore limestone caverns formed from an ancient inland sea and learn about the geology, animals and human history connected to the site.
We’re more than a cavern tour stop. Travelers can stay at our inn, use the RV park or campground, eat at the restaurant and explore the property before continuing along one of Arizona’s best-preserved stretches of Historic Route 66. The caverns are currently owned and operated by the Havasupai Tribe, and several tour options are available, including an accessible Short Tour as well as longer underground experiences.
