About
The Oro Grande Bridge is a historic Route 66 crossing over the Mojave River between Oro Grande and Victorville, California. Built in 1930, the bridge is also known as the 1930 Rockfield Bridge, Mojave River Bridge, and Victorville Route 66 Bridge. It replaced an older Parker through-truss bridge and carried the newly paved U.S. Highway 66 across the river.
The bridge is a modified Baltimore through-truss structure measuring approximately 575 feet long. Its roadway deck is about 34 feet wide, with five spans and a longest span of roughly 270 feet. The staggered side trusses create a distinctive visual effect when viewed from the roadway, while ornate guardrails add another period detail. Nearly a century after construction, the bridge remains a recognizable piece of Route 66 engineering in California’s Mojave Desert.
