The Oatman Post Office has been connecting this remote desert town to the outside world for more than a century. Originally established in 1904 when the community was known as Vivian, the post office was renamed Oatman in 1909 as the booming mining camp adopted the name honoring pioneer Olive Oatman. The current building, constructed in 1940, has endured while earlier structures were lost to devastating fires, making it one of the town's enduring historic landmarks.
Today, the Oatman Post Office remains a favorite stop for Route 66 travelers. Visitors from around the world mail postcards here to receive the community's distinctive hand-stamped postmark before continuing their journey along the Mother Road. Step outside, and you may even find one of Oatman's famous wild burros waiting on the boardwalk to greet the next wave of visitors.

It Was Originally Called Vivian
Before Oatman became a famous Route 66 destination, the community was known as Vivian. The post office opened under that name in 1904 before officially becoming the Oatman Post Office in 1909.
Every Letter Is Hand-Stamped
Unlike most modern post offices, outgoing mail is still canceled by hand, giving every postcard and letter a unique Oatman postmark that has become a favorite keepsake for Route 66 travelers.
