About
Since 1956, the Polk-A-Dot Drive In has been serving up a taste of classic Americana along Route 66 in Braidwood, Illinois. Its story began when Chester “Chet” Fife converted a school bus painted with colorful polka dots into a roadside restaurant, serving hungry travelers directly from its windows. The business eventually expanded, moving into its present building in 1962. Over the decades, it has become a familiar Mother Road landmark, preserving the atmosphere of a 1950s diner with colorful decorations, vintage memorabilia and tabletop jukeboxes. Its place in Illinois roadside history was recognized when it was inducted into the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame in 2002.
Today, visitors can enjoy an old-fashioned dining experience featuring burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes and the restaurant's signature chili-cheese fries. Outside, life-size figures of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Betty Boop, Superman and the Blues Brothers provide plenty of entertaining photo opportunities. Inside, retro decorations and rock-and-roll memorabilia continue the nostalgic experience. Whether you're stopping for lunch, enjoying a milkshake or snapping photographs with your favorite entertainment icons, the Polk-A-Dot Drive In offers a playful glimpse into the golden age of American roadside dining.
