About Us
The Ranger Motel is a surviving roadside motel along historic Route 66 in El Reno. Built and opened in 1954, the property reflects the postwar era when independent motor courts flourished beside the Mother Road. Its low-slung, U-shaped arrangement of gable-roofed rooms remains characteristic of mid-century roadside lodging.
The motel’s standout feature is its towering Googie-style sign, believed to date from the late 1950s or early 1960s. It is reportedly at least the third sign used by the property and was restored with new neon before being relit in January 2008. Vintage postcards show an earlier Ranger Motel sign alongside advertisements for air-conditioned rooms, tile baths, television, and other amenities aimed at Route 66 motorists. The motel continues to operate today, preserving both overnight lodging and a distinctive piece of El Reno’s roadside history.
