About

Standin’ on the Corner Park turns one of American music’s best-known road-trip references into a physical stop on Historic Route 66. Planning began in 1997 as part of an effort to revive downtown Winslow after Interstate 40 diverted much of the town’s through traffic, and the park was dedicated in September 1999. Its centerpiece combines a two-story trompe-l’oeil mural by John Pugh with a life-size bronze by sculptor Ron Adamson depicting a guitar-carrying traveler standing on the corner—a playful recreation of the Winslow scene evoked in the Eagles’ recording of “Take It Easy.” Inscribed donor bricks, landscaping and seating complete the compact downtown park. The site continues to be stewarded by the Standin' on The Corner Foundation.

For Route 66 travelers, the park has become one of Winslow’s signature photo stops. Visitors can pose with the original bronze, frame the mural and its flatbed Ford imagery behind them, and photograph the oversized Route 66 shield painted into the nearby intersection. A second bronze honoring Glenn Frey was added in 2016, expanding the park’s musical tribute while the surrounding historic downtown has continued to benefit from the renewed traveler traffic the project helped encourage. The attraction is small enough for a quick stop, but its combination of Route 66 history, public art and music culture makes it an unusually recognizable piece of modern Mother Road history.
